Preview of Tendril
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Gather plant stems round a cane without tying
A support for floppy stems that coils like a tendril. Slide the hub down a garden cane to the right height, then feed the stems of peonies, tomatoes or tall herbs into the open end of the spiral and slide them round into its turns. Nothing needs tying, and each stem keeps its own channel.

MAIN PURPOSE: House a solar stake light in a glowing pavilion
A garden pavilion for a cheap solar stake light. Drop the solar head into the roof: its panel sits on top in the sun, its LED shines down inside, and at night the four columns and low sill glow like a lit tea house on the border. The stake passes through the floor into the soil.

Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Train a climbing houseplant over an arch
A round-headed garden arch for a houseplant pot. Push the pointed legs into the compost until the flanges stop at the soil, then wind a hoya, jasmine or climbing pothos round the hoop: the little inward spurs hold the ties so the plant grows into an arbour instead of a tangle.

Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Guard a seedling from slugs with a water moat
A castle moat for one precious seedling. Set the ring on the soil round the plant and fill the outer channel with water: slugs and snails will not cross it, while the plant grows up through the open centre and the inner wall keeps soil out of the moat.

Preview of Tunnel Cloche
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Shelter a row of seedlings under a vault
A miniature polytunnel for seedlings on a windowsill or raised bed. The barrel vault is a single 3 mm shell that is stiff only because it is curved, the foot flanges stop it rocking, and the open ends let air through so seedlings stay warm without damping off.

By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Stack notched bars into a log-cabin pot cover
One log of a log-cabin crib. Every bar has half-depth notches top and bottom near both ends, so bars laid crosswise interlock course by course like a cabin corner. Stack sixteen into a cachepot round a nursery pot, a lantern round an LED candle or a crib for pens, as tall as you like.

Preview of Seedvault
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Archive saved seeds in three labelled drawers
A Brutalist seed archive inspired by the vaults that store the world's crops. Three drawers sized for seed packets sit behind a heavy 130 mm block with chamfered edges, the side is engraved with the vault name and the year, and vent slots on the back let the packets breathe. Drop a sachet of silica gel in each drawer.

By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Frame a moss garden in a miniature glasshouse
A tabletop Wardian case, the Victorian glasshouse that invented the terrarium. Its four walls are a lattice of square panes; press thin acetate inside and it becomes a closed moss garden, or leave it open as a frame round a succulent. A plinth foot lifts it off the table.

Preview of Shedrow
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Start seedlings in four beds beside a tool shed
An allotment for the windowsill. Four raised beds hold seed-starting compost, each with its own drainage, and a garden shed with a lift-off roof and a real door stores plant labels and the dibber. Start four crops at once and the plot front shows the plot number.

Preview of Air-layering root pod
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple (set)
MAIN PURPOSE: Root a new plant on the parent branch
Strip a ring of bark from a branch, slide two pods round it through their slots, tape them rim to rim and pack them with damp sphagnum moss: in six to ten weeks roots fill the pod and you cut off a new plant that is already rooted. Works for figs, citrus, rubber plants and roses.
