Preview of Submarine bath-tea infuser
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Hang a pierced submarine of bath herbs under the hot tap
Bath tea is a pot of herbs for the bath, and this one is a little submarine. Fill the hull with oats, lavender, rose petals or chamomile, close the hatch and hang it by the ring on its conning tower under the hot tap: the water pours in through the hatch rim and out through the eight holes in the hull, smelling of the herbs, without a single petal in the bath. When the bath is full, unhook it and let it dive to the bottom to keep steeping.

Preview of Ocean-wave drum
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Tilt a sealed drum of beads slowly to hear surf breaking on a beach
Ocean drums are an old sound-effects trick, used in theatres and music therapy. A handful of steel beads lies inside a wide, flat drum. Tilt it slowly and the beads roll across the wave-ridged floor in a long rushing hiss, exactly like a wave running up the sand; tip it back and the wave draws away. Shake it for rain, roll it for a storm. Children love it, and it is wonderfully calming at bedtime.

Preview of Spin-dial dog treat puzzle
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Hide treats in eight bays under a dial the dog noses round to find them
A brain game for dogs. Drop a treat into each of the eight bays and put the dial on top: it has a single window, so only one bay is open at a time. The dog has to work out that nudging the dial round with nose or paw reveals the next treat. Ten minutes of sniffing and thinking tires a dog out more than a long walk. Leave some bays empty to make it harder.

Preview of Gummy-bear osmosis lab
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Watch gummy bears grow, shrink or dissolve in four liquids overnight
Put one gummy bear on the millimetre grid in each bay and measure it, then cover them with plain water, salty water, sugary water and vinegar. By morning the water bear has swollen to twice its size as water rushes in through its skin by osmosis, the salty and sugary ones barely change, and the vinegar bear has started to dissolve. Measure them on the grid again and record the results. A classic science experiment in a neat tray.

Preview of Scrap-regrow windowsill station
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Regrow lettuce, celery, spring onions and carrot tops from kitchen scraps
The root ends you throw away will grow again. Stand a lettuce or bok choy stump in the wide dish, a celery base in the shallow one, the white roots of spring onions upright in the tall tube and carrot tops in the small cup, each in a little water. Within days new leaves push up from the middle: spring onions can be cut again in a week, celery grows a new heart and carrot tops sprout feathery greens for pesto. Each well is labelled in its floor.

Preview of Shower-thoughts idea pod
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Catch the ideas you have in the shower on a waterproof pad before they vanish
Your best ideas arrive in the shower, and are gone by the time you are dry. This wall pod holds a waterproof notepad behind a big window you can write through, a pencil in its own tube, and drain holes so nothing pools. Write the idea down mid-rinse, tear off the sheet later. SHOWER THOUGHTS is raised above the window.

Preview of Round pedestal tray
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Raise a round tray on a single pedestal for display or serving
A 150 mm round tray lifted 45 mm off the table on a single round pedestal with a wide foot, like a small cake stand. The pedestal pushes into the tray on a press-fit peg, so both parts print flat without supports.
