Preview of Roman wax-tablet notepad
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Write and erase notes on a wax tablet with a stylus, as Roman scribes did
Two thousand years before sticky notes, Romans wrote shopping lists and school sums on wax tablets: scratch letters into the wax with a pointed stylus, then smooth them away with the flat end and start again. Pour coloured beeswax into the tray, keep the stylus in its groove, and slip the lid on to protect it. Warm the wax with a hairdryer to wipe the whole page clean. Endlessly reusable, and oddly satisfying to write on.

By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep 150 and 75 mm origami paper flat with a bone folder at hand
A desk station for paper folders. The big well holds a stack of 15 cm origami paper flat, with finger notches front and back to pick up a single sheet. A square side well takes 7.5 cm paper, and the long trough on the right keeps the bone folder and tweezers. The front has a faceted diamond pattern, like folded paper.

By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Pierce sewing stations for bookbinding
Lay the strip in the fold of an open signature with the back lip hooked over the head of the pages, then push an awl through the seven guide holes. Every signature in the book gets its sewing stations in exactly the same place, so the spine comes out straight. Stations are 40 mm apart.

Preview of Deckle Rule
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Tear paper with a handmade deckle edge
Hold the rule down on a sheet and tear the paper up against its rippled edge: you get the soft, irregular deckle of handmade paper on invitations, place cards, menus and journal pages, with no deckle box and no wet tearing. The other edge is a plain straight edge for normal tears.

Preview of Glue Bridge
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep PVA glue and wipe the brush
A PVA pot for bookbinding and paper crafts: the bar across the top is for wiping excess glue off the brush, so it goes on thin and even, and the snug lid keeps the glue workable between sessions. Fill to just below the bar.

Preview of Pagewarden
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Peek a little keeper over the top edge of a book
A bookmark with a guardian on top. The 2 mm strip slides between the pages while a round-headed little keeper peeks over the top of the book, both hands resting on the page edge, eyes cut through. It marks your place and makes a stack of books look inhabited.

Preview of Notebook pen loop clip
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep a pen attached to a notebook
Slide the slot onto the edge of a hardcover notebook and snap your pen into the ring: the pen travels with the notebook, clipped along its edge, instead of rolling around the bottom of the bag. Fits 3 to 3.5 mm covers and 9 to 11 mm pens.

Preview of A-series card scoring board
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Score A-size cards to fold exactly in half
Push the sheet against the corner stops and run a bone folder down the groove for your size: the four grooves sit at exactly half of A7 to A4, so every card, invitation and booklet folds dead centre, with a crisp crease.

Preview of Notepad padding press
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Make glued notepads from scrap paper
Jog a stack of A6 sheets into the channel so the top edge stands 10 mm proud, clamp the walls with two bulldog clips and brush on padding glue: when it dries you have a tear-off notepad made from scrap paper.

Preview of Line-pointer page clip
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple (set)
MAIN PURPOSE: Mark the exact line where you stopped reading
Slip the clip onto the page edge with its point at the line where you stopped: next time you go straight back to the right line, not just the right page. It is thin enough to stay in while the book is closed.
