Preview of Button shank spacer fork
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple (set)
MAIN PURPOSE: Sew buttons on with a strong thread shank
Lay the fork across a coat button between its holes and sew over the two tines; slide it out, wind the thread round the slack and you have a proper thread shank, so buttons on thick fabric stop pulling loose and tearing off.

Preview of Soap sliver press mould
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Press leftover soap slivers into a new bar
Chop the last slivers of soap, damp them with a spoonful of hot water and press them hard into this bar mould: the corner holes let the excess water out, and the slivers dry into one solid, usable bar with SOAP pressed into its face.

Preview of Toilet cistern displacement box
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Save water on every toilet flush
Stand it in the cistern clear of the float and the flush valve, fill it with water or gravel and close the snug lid: every flush now uses about a litre less, the job a brick used to do, but without crumbling grit into the valve.

Preview of Radiator top heat deflector
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple (set)
MAIN PURPOSE: Direct radiator heat into the room
Sits on top of a 100 mm double-panel radiator, gripping both panels: the shelf and the forward lip turn the rising warm air into the room instead of up behind the curtains or onto a cold window sill. Print several and butt them along the radiator.

Preview of Bokashi bucket press plate
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Press air out of a bokashi compost bucket
After each layer of scraps and bran, push this plate down hard in the bokashi bucket to squeeze out the air the fermentation hates; six ribs keep the 220 mm plate stiff and give fingers a grip, and it stays on top as the cover layer.

Preview of Bottle-to-bottle drain coupler
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Drain the last drops into a new bottle
Joins two bottles mouth to mouth: the 21 mm spigot plugs into the new bottle, the old one stands upside down in the cup above, and the last shampoo, sauce or washing-up liquid drains across overnight instead of going in the bin.

Preview of T-shirt yarn cutting guide
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Cut old T-shirts into even yarn strips
Fold an old T-shirt flat under the board and run a rotary cutter down the seven slots: the strips come out an even 25 mm wide and stay joined along one edge, so a few diagonal snips turn them into one continuous strand of yarn for crochet rugs and baskets.

Preview of Newspaper seedling pot maker
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Roll newspaper into seedling pots
Wrap a strip of newspaper twice round the 50 mm form, fold the overhang under and press the form down hard on the table to crease the base; slide the pot off, fill it with compost and later plant it out paper and all, so seedlings never need plastic pots.

Preview of Recycled paper-making mould
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Make recycled paper sheets from scrap
Blend scrap paper into pulp, tip it into a washing-up bowl and dip this frame: the grid floor carries a piece of fly screen, the walls act as the deckle, and you lift out an even A5 sheet to couch onto a cloth. Stir seeds into the pulp for plantable paper.

Preview of Shower flow-rate test jug
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Measure shower flow to find water savings
Hold it under the shower for exactly six seconds and read the level: the marks give the flow in litres per minute. Anything over 9 means an aerated shower head would cut hot water, and the energy to heat it, straight away.
