Preview of Beachcomber sifting sorter
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Sift sand from beach finds and sort them on the spot
A beachcombing tray for children and collectors. Scoop and shake, and sand falls through the perforated floor while shells, sea glass and stones stay behind. The finds are sorted straight into the three side bays, so the best ones come home dry and separated.

Preview of Surf wax case
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep a bar of surf wax out of the sand and the sun
A screw-top case for a puck of surf wax, sized for the round bars. It keeps sand and lint off the wax and stops it melting into the car seat. SURF wraps round the side and WAX is on the lid.

Preview of Ferro-rod fire kit
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep a ferro rod and dry tinder sealed for camp
A twist-lock capsule for lighting fires outdoors: a ferro rod and striker stand inside next to dry tinder. The bayonet lid locks with a quarter turn and doesn't vibrate open in a pack, and FIRE is raised round the side so it is easy to find in the dark.

Preview of Nesting camp bowl trio
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Pack three camp bowls inside each other
Three camp bowls in stepped sizes: a big mixing bowl, a serving bowl and a cup-sized bowl. Each fits inside the next, so all three pack into one bowl's space in a rucksack, and at camp they stack up as a cooking-prep tower.

Preview of Pool and spa test-kit caddy
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep pool water test vials, strips and reagents together
A poolside caddy for water testing. Reagent bottles, the comparator vial, test strips and the thermometer each have their own bay, and the perforated floor lets splashes drain away. It hangs on the pump-house wall from keyholes, so the weekly test is never a hunt.

Preview of Bladderwrack
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep keys afloat when they fall in water
A floating key fob after bladderwrack, the seaweed that holds its fronds up to the light with gas-filled bladders. The sealed 34 mm capsule displaces about 58 ml, enough to keep a car key and a couple of others on the surface if they go over the side. The ring handle takes the key ring.

Preview of Map romer for grid references
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Read map grid references precisely
Lay the corner on your point and read the six-figure grid reference straight off the notched edges: 4 mm steps for 100 m on 1:25 000 maps along one edge, 2 mm steps for 1:50 000 maps along the other, with every fifth notch longer.

Preview of Headtorch lantern shell
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Turn a headtorch into a tent lantern
Strap a headtorch round the shell with its lens in the front window and hang it from the top hole: the thin translucent walls spread the beam into soft, even tent light that does not dazzle anyone. Folds nothing, weighs little, uses the torch you already carry.

Preview of Paracord bracelet jig
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Tie paracord bracelets to an exact length
Push two pencils through the double plate: one at the fixed end, one at 6, 7 or 8 inches. Clip the buckle halves over them and the cord stays taut while you tie cobra knots, so every bracelet comes out the same length and tension.

Preview of Avalanche slope clinometer card
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Measure slope angle for avalanche safety
Lay a ski pole down the slope, set the straight edge on it and let a cord with a nut hang from the corner slot: the notches read 25 to 50 degrees, with long marks at 30 and 45, so you know when a slope is steep enough to avalanche.
