Multi-part assembly

Preview of Box-breathing finger tracer
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Trace a square track with a fingertip to pace box breathing
Box breathing (in for four, hold for four, out for four, hold for four) calms nerves before exams and meetings, but counting is hard when you are anxious. This palm-sized tray gives your fingertip a square channel to trace, one side per breath stage, with IN, HOLD, OUT and HOLD on each side. Your finger keeps the rhythm so your head doesn't have to.

Preview of Pet-rock adoption crate
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Give a found pebble a home, a bed and a name
A shipping crate for the lowest-maintenance pet there is. Breathing holes run along both sides (the rock does not need them, which is the joke), a low bed rail keeps it from rolling about, and PET ROCK is stencilled on the front like freight. Children find a pebble on a walk, paint a face on it and give it a name. It also makes a good office secret-Santa gift.

Preview of Saguaro-rib cachepot
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Shade a potted plant with ribs that cast their own shadows, like a cactus
Saguaro cacti survive desert sun partly because their deep pleats shade their own skin. This cachepot borrows the trick: deep vertical ribs round the outside mean much of the surface is always in shadow, so the nursery pot inside stays cooler on a hot balcony. It also makes a striking sculptural pot.

Preview of Ticket-stub keepsake box
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: File concert, theatre and match ticket stubs by year
Ticket stubs are the best diary of nights out, and they end up crumpled in drawers. This box files them upright in four rows, one per year or one per venue, so you can flip through them like records. SHOWS is raised on the lid.

Preview of Spin-art paint spinner
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Spin a card on a turntable while dripping paint for spin art
Spin art as at the fairground: a square of card spins on a ball-bearing turntable while children drip paint on it, and the tall wall round the edge catches the spray so the kitchen doesn't get painted too. No motor or batteries, just a good push.

Preview of Shuffleboard desk rink
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Slide coins into scoring zones on a desktop shuffleboard
Table shuffleboard shrunk to a desk: slide coins from the notched end and try to stop them in the 1, 2 or 3 zones engraved at the far end without falling off. Knock your opponent's coin out of the 3 and you have the classic pub game during a lunch break.

Preview of Layered water-filter science kit
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Clean muddy water through gravel, sand and charcoal layers
A stacking science kit that shows how water treatment works. Three pierced tiers hold gravel, sand and charcoal, and muddy water poured in at the top drips through each layer into the clear cup at the bottom. Children can swap the layer order and see which is best.

Preview of Carrom coin and striker case
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep carrom coins, the queen and the striker together
A round case for a carrom set, the board game of South Asian homes and clubs. The whites and the blacks stack in their own bays, the red queen and the striker sit in the centre ring, and a friction lid closes it all. Nothing goes missing between games.

Preview of Feelings check-in board
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Let children post a token in the bay that matches how they feel
A feelings check-in for classrooms and family kitchens. Children drop their named token into HAPPY, CALM, WORRIED or ANGRY when they arrive, each word in its own colour. Adults can see at a glance who might need a quiet word, and children practise naming their feelings without having to say them out loud.
