Preview of Pachinko decision board
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Drop a marble past the bumpers and let it decide: YES, NO, MAYBE or AGAIN
For decisions nobody can agree on. Lean the board back, drop a marble in at the top, and it bounces off two rows of bumpers before landing in one of four bays: YES, NO, MAYBE or AGAIN. Because each bumper sends it left or right by chance, the middle bays come up more often than the outer ones, just like a Galton board. Relabel the bays for dinner choices, chores or who goes first.

Preview of Monty Hall three-door game
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Play the famous probability puzzle with three lidded boxes, one prize and two duds
You pick one of three doors. The host, who knows where the prize is, opens another door to show a goat, and asks: do you want to switch? Most people say it makes no difference. It does: switching wins two times out of three. Even mathematicians argued about it when it was published in 1990. Hide a prize in one of these three numbered boxes and test it at the table: play twenty rounds each way and the tally does not lie.

Preview of Coin-toss bell-curve tower
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Watch a bell curve build up, one bead for every shake of eight coins
Shake eight coins in the front tray, count the heads, and drop a bead into that column, from 0 to 8. Do it fifty times and the beads build a bell curve you can see through the clear walls: 4 heads stands tallest because there are 70 ways to get it, 3 and 5 come close behind, and 0 or 8 heads almost never happens (1 way in 256). It is the binomial distribution, the maths behind the famous Galton board, built by hand one shake at a time.

Preview of Lo Shu magic-square snack tray
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Serve snacks in nine bays numbered so every line adds up to 15
According to legend, a turtle climbed out of the Luo river 4,000 years ago with this pattern on its shell: the numbers 1 to 9 in a square where every row, column and diagonal adds up to 15. Put that many sweets, nuts or grapes in each bay. Whoever picks any straight line of three gets exactly 15. For a puzzle, empty it and ask a child to put the numbers back so the magic still works.

By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep carrom coins, the queen and the striker together
A round case for a carrom set, the board game of South Asian homes and clubs. The whites and the blacks stack in their own bays, the red queen and the striker sit in the centre ring, and a friction lid closes it all. Nothing goes missing between games.

Preview of Mahjong table hub
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep dice and scoring sticks in the middle of a mahjong table
A spinning centrepiece for the mahjong table: four bays, one facing each seat, hold every player's scoring sticks, and the round centre well keeps the dice. The E, S, W and N winds are raised on the sides, so a quarter turn passes the dealer's seat on. It turns on a ball-bearing ring.

Preview of Chess piece chest
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Store a full chess set in two drawers, one per side
A two-drawer chest for a travel chess set (kings up to about 55 mm): one drawer for white and one for black. Each drawer has six cells, so all 32 pieces lie down without knocking together. A crown sits on each drawer front.

Preview of Shogi captured-piece stand
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium (set)
MAIN PURPOSE: Hold captured shogi pieces beside the board
A komadai, the small stand each shogi player keeps beside the board. Captured pieces wait on the raised tray until they are dropped back into play. The square tray sits on a solid square pedestal, a modern take on the traditional wooden stand.
