Preview of Fibonacci golden-rectangle desk tray
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Sort desk things into squares that grow by the Fibonacci sequence
A desk tray built from the Fibonacci sequence: squares of 8, 5, 3, 2, 1 and 1 units spiral inward and fit exactly into a golden rectangle, the proportion of the Parthenon and the nautilus shell. The big square takes a notebook, the next a phone, then a stack of sticky notes, then cards, and the two tiny squares hold SIM pins and memory cards. Each bay has its number engraved in the floor, so the spiral reads as you clear it.

Preview of Meshing gear-train desk caddy
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Sort desk tools into three gear-shaped pots whose teeth really mesh
Three proper spur gears, each with ten teeth, stand in a row with their teeth genuinely meshed, as if they were about to turn each other. The tall one holds pens, the middle one scissors and rulers, and the short one clips and erasers. It looks like a piece of a giant clock on the desk, and it makes a great gift for an engineer.

Preview of Penrose-stairs organiser
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Sort desk bits in boxes that step round like the endless staircase
Four long boxes pinwheel round a central well, each one a step taller than the last, like the Penrose stairs in Escher's Ascending and Descending. Clips go in the lowest, pens in the tallest, and the centre takes the phone. It is a useful organiser that looks as though it climbs forever.

By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep a pen in each key of a piano octave
A pen tray laid out as one octave of a piano: seven bays, C to B, one for each white key, with the notes engraved in the floor. The dividers stand tall where the black keys fall and dip low between E and F, just like the real keyboard. Seven pens, one octave.

Preview of Origami paper station
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep 150 and 75 mm origami paper flat with a bone folder at hand
A desk station for paper folders. The big well holds a stack of 15 cm origami paper flat, with finger notches front and back to pick up a single sheet. A square side well takes 7.5 cm paper, and the long trough on the right keeps the bone folder and tweezers. The front has a faceted diamond pattern, like folded paper.

Preview of Urchin pen hedge
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Stand pens upright in a sea-urchin dome
A pen holder based on a sea-urchin test. Eight pens stand apart in the pierced top so they never lean on each other, which makes it easy to grab the right one. The hollow body below keeps the tips off the desk.

Preview of T-tetromino desk bin
By Krypto
Complexity
Advanced
MAIN PURPOSE: Sort desk bits in a T-shaped block from the falling-block game
A desk bin in the shape of the T piece from the falling-block game: four square cells joined in a T. Each cell takes one kind of thing (clips, pins, erasers, USB sticks), and the T shape fits round a lamp or monitor foot where a rectangle would not.
