Preview of Cat-magnet desk square
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Lure a cat off the keyboard into a square beside the laptop
Cats cannot resist a square: in a 2021 citizen-science study, pet cats sat inside squares that were only an illusion, made of four notched circles, about as often as in real ones. This low tray uses that instinct to save your keyboard. Put it beside the laptop, and the cat that would have stretched across the keys settles into the square instead, still close to you and still in the warm. The textured floor stops it sliding.

Preview of Cricket-chirp thermometer cage
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep a singing cricket and read the temperature from how fast it chirps
Crickets chirp faster when it is warm, so regularly that in 1897 the physicist Amos Dolbear turned it into a formula: count the chirps in 14 seconds and add 40 to get the temperature in Fahrenheit. (For Celsius, count chirps in 25 seconds, divide by 3 and add 4.) This ventilated cage keeps a cricket comfortable with slotted sides for air and sound, and the formula is raised on the front so the living thermometer can be read without a phone.

Preview of Tortoise fridge-hibernation box
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Hibernate a tortoise safely in a vented box in a dedicated fridge
Many reptile vets now recommend hibernating Mediterranean tortoises in a dedicated fridge, because it holds a steady 5 degrees where a garage or shed swings from freezing to warm. This box sits on the fridge shelf with a bed of soil or shredded paper; the vents on both sides let fresh air in, and the lid lifts off for the weekly weigh-in and to open the door for air. DO NOT DISTURB is raised on the front.

Preview of Spin-dial dog treat puzzle
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Hide treats in eight bays under a dial the dog noses round to find them
A brain game for dogs. Drop a treat into each of the eight bays and put the dial on top: it has a single window, so only one bay is open at a time. The dog has to work out that nudging the dial round with nose or paw reveals the next treat. Ten minutes of sniffing and thinking tires a dog out more than a long walk. Leave some bays empty to make it harder.

Preview of Cat scratcher refill tray
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Hold replaceable corrugated cardboard for a cat to scratch
Cardboard scratchers are cats' favourites but you throw the whole thing away when it is worn. This tray is the permanent part: pack it with strips cut from delivery boxes and the cat has a fresh scratcher for nothing. The scooped ends make it easy to tip the shredded strips out, and SCRATCH is raised on the side next to a paw.

MAIN PURPOSE: Let a dog sniff out treats through holes in a deck over fleece
Ten minutes of sniffing tires a dog more than a walk. Fill the box with fleece strips and kibble, put the pierced deck on top, and the dog has to nose out every treat through the eight holes. It is a calm, satisfying puzzle for rainy days and for dogs who bolt their food. SNIFF is on the front.

Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Keep newborn fish fry safe inside the tank in a slotted box
Livebearers like guppies and mollies give birth, and the adults eat the fry within hours. This slotted box hangs inside the tank with tank water flowing through every side, keeping the fry safe in their own nursery until they are big enough to join the others. The divider keeps two broods apart.

MAIN PURPOSE: Offer hens oyster shell and grit free-choice from a wall hopper

By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Stand cat wand toys upright with their spare feather refills
Cat wand toys end up tangled in a drawer, and the cat learns where they live. This quiver stands them upright like arrows, out of paw reach, and the side box with a lid keeps the spare feathers and teasers.

Preview of Dog-training treat pouch
By Krypto
Complexity
Multi-part assembly
MAIN PURPOSE: Carry training treats on a belt for quick rewards
A belt-worn treat box for dog training. The wide mouth lets you grab a treat one-handed at the exact moment the dog gets it right, and the lift-off lid keeps the smell in between sessions. A paw is raised on the front.
