By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Show that a litre is a 10 cm cube

Preview of Half-metre trundle wheel
By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Measure distances by counting wheel turns

By Krypto
Complexity
Medium
MAIN PURPOSE: Watch the Sun safely by projection
Push the 1.25 inch eyepiece into the back hole, point the telescope at the Sun and its image falls on the white front wall inside the shaded box: a whole class can watch sunspots and eclipses through the open side, with nobody looking through the scope.

Preview of Leeuwenhoek ball-lens microscope
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: See cells with a single glass bead lens
A slide-sized plate with seats for a 2 mm and a 3 mm glass bead, the trick Antonie van Leeuwenhoek used in the 1670s: tape a specimen to the back, hold the bead to your eye and see cells at up to 150 times, with a lens that cost almost nothing.

Preview of Eureka overflow can for rock density
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Measure rock volume and density by displacement
Fill the can until water runs from the spout, lower in a rock on a thread and catch the overflow in a measuring cylinder: that is the rock volume. Divide its weight by it and pupils can tell granite from basalt from a lump of pyrite by density alone.

Preview of Newton colour wheel spinner
By Krypto
Complexity
Simple
MAIN PURPOSE: Show that the spectrum colours mix to white
Colour the seven ribbed sectors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, push a pencil through the centre and spin it like a top: the colours blend into a pale grey white, Newton's proof that white light is all the colours together.
