Rim Taper

Read bowl wall thickness at the lathe

Slide the tapered slot onto the rim of a bowl with the lathe stopped: it stops where the gap matches the wall, and the engraved number beside that point reads the thickness, from 12 down to 3 mm, without fetching callipers. Long jaws reach 90 mm down over a lip.
