Read soil layers in a settling jar

A sleeve for the gardener’s soil jar test. Shake a scoop of soil in a 500 ml jar of water, stand it in the sleeve and let it settle into strata as rocks do: sand in a minute, silt in hours, clay over a day. Read each layer through the window against the millimetre marks to find your soil type.

How to print it

Print upright in a dark colour so the layers stand out.

Prints as shown on its floor, no supports. Large holes in the walls may need supports or good bridging.

Filament: at most about 31.2 g of PLA printed solid (roughly $0.62 at $20 per kg); normal infill uses less.
