Cut threaded rod square without damaging threads

Run a nut onto M6, M8 or M10 threaded rod, push the rod down through the guide to your mark and saw along the slot between the two plates: the cut comes out square and the thread is supported right up to the blade, and backing the nut off over the end re-forms the first thread.
