Smartphone projector with focus slots

Project a phone screen onto a wall through a magnifying lens

A shoebox cinema, done properly. A magnifying lens fits over the round front port, and the phone stands upright in one of four numbered focus slots inside. Moving it back a slot focuses the picture on the wall like a slide projector, with no sliding parts. The lid blacks out the box so the image is as bright as possible. Lights off, film on.

What’s in it

  • Rectangular, 180 × 150 × 120 mm, with 2.4 mm walls
  • 4 dividers
  • 1 hole in the walls
  • Raised text: “1”, “2”, “3”, “4”, “FOCUS”
  • Lift-off lid (prints separately)

How to print it

Fit a 60-100 mm magnifying lens over the front port, turn the phone image upside down, and lock its rotation; try each slot until the picture is sharp.

Prints as shown on its floor, no supports. Large holes in the walls may need supports or good bridging. The lid prints as a separate part, top down.

Filament: at most about 480 g of PLA printed solid (roughly $9.61 at $20 per kg); normal infill uses less.

To get the files, open it in the generator and choose File › Download STL (one file per part) or Download 3MF (every part on one plate).
