A desk organizer that fits your things
Start from the things on your desk, not from a design: measure the few items you use every day, give each a home, and keep the organizer small enough to leave room to work. A 3D-printed organizer can match your exact pens, notes and phone, which no shop-bought one does.
Measure what you keep
| Item | Typical size | Space to give it |
|---|---|---|
| Sticky notes | 76 × 76 mm pad | An 80 × 80 mm well |
| Pens and pencils | 14–15 cm long | A cup 90–100 mm tall, so they stand and don't tip |
| Business cards | 85 × 55 mm | A 90 × 60 mm slot |
| Phone | Measure yours | A pocket from the Pocket library, or a stand slot 2–3 mm wider than the phone in its case |
Three layouts that work
- One tray, several sections. A low tray with dividers for notes, cards and clips, and a tall pen cup beside it. Simple and quick to print.
- Stacked drawers. In SO3D, Add outer sleeve turns a tray into a drawer that slides in a sleeve, and sleeves stack on top of each other. Good for small things you want out of sight.
- Off the desk. Wall-mount keyhole slots let you hang a holder on the wall or under a shelf, keeping the desk itself clear.
Drawers that slide nicely
A drawer and its sleeve need a little play. SO3D's drawer Fit gives 0.2 mm (Snug), 0.35 mm (Standard) or 0.5 mm (Loose) on each side. Start with Standard; go Loose if the drawer sticks, especially in PETG (see Lids that fit for the test-print method).
Cables and chargers
Give each cable its own small bin, or a long tray with dividers, and label it with Add text (USB-C, Lightning, HDMI…). It ends the tangle and shows at a glance what is missing.
Common questions
How big should the whole thing be? Smaller than you think. Most people use five to eight items every day; an organizer the size of an A4 sheet (210 × 297 mm) holds them all and leaves the rest of the desk free.
Will it slide when I pull a pen out? A heavier base helps: print it with a thicker floor or more infill, or stick small TPU or felt pads underneath.
