Kratky lettuce raft

Grow lettuce in a tub of nutrient water with no pump

A raft for the Kratky method, the simplest hydroponics: no pump and no power. Eight 2-inch net cups of lettuce or herbs hang through the raft into a dark tub of nutrient water. As the plants drink, an air gap opens for the roots, and the crop is ready before the water runs out.
